Black Skimmers Return

Shore birds

A group of black skimmers. They lay their eggs in shallow depressions in the sand.

Two black skimmers with a ring-billed gull looking at the camera.

A closer look at the skimmers posing with Royal Terns.

I don't remember ever seeing those birds before. Or at least I've never noticed their different colour beak.
I think they are only here in winter.

I've never seen them either. They have a really interesting beak.

Do you think they may be around Myrtle Beach in March? I would love to see them and to add them to my birding list!

I don't recall seeing them in March. But, since they are only starting to next, they may still be at NSB.

They skim over the water with the tip of their long thick beak just touching the water so they can snap up dinner.
