Floridians come to Canada to escape their summer heat

On the August holiday weekend, Paul and I were cycling (and leading rides) with the Toronto Bicycle Network around St. Catherines and Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Our dive buddies from Florida, Glen and Norma, had never been to Niagara Falls. On Tuesday August 4, after the three day cycling weekend, we arranged to meet them at the "lip of the Horseshoe Falls". They crossed the border at Fort Erie, found that their cell-phone did not work in Canada, and, even though there was a lack of signs to get there, eventually found the Falls. When we called on Paul's cell phone, it turned out that they could receive calls and were just across the street from us.

A warm day (for this summer) at the "lip of the Horseshoe Falls".

Paul and Glen in front of the cottage. There was no time to cut down the weeds that you can see growing. We were too busy looking for birds and trying to keep the pump working.

Looking for birds to photograph. [The day after they left, there were two woodpeckers out in plain sight during the day.]

Glen, Norma and I got into a competition taking photos of Osprey. We took more than 20 Ospreys' pictures, some on nests and others flying with fish in their talons (by Glen).

A mother and two fledglings in a nest. Many hydro poles now have platforms built on top of them to encourage the Osprey nesting.

We went out for dinner at Elmhirst Lodge. Uncle Leonard used to take Paul's mother there. It was nice that Glen and Norma came so that we could try it.

Paul didn't want me to pose this way, so Norma suggested we both do the same.

I can't say that I've ever actually seen an Osprey (just their nests).
