On the Mosel... Day 2... August 1st
Germany has completely shut down all nuclear plants and is now burning coal for electricity. There were many coal barges going up the Mosel.
At breakfast each day ingredients were set out so that we could make ourselves a bag lunch to eat.
The castle at Bernkastel. Unfortunately I did not tour the lovely town because I was developing a severe sore throat. That evening there was a wine and cheese tasting at a local wine cellar. I attended that hoping it would help my throat. It didn't.

Comments
Megan was 5 and Bryn was 3 so I doubt they would have remembered it had they been there this year. Sandra remembered our 1966 trip (although she couldn't locate our camping spot up in the wine fields from the barge way below on the river).
In 2001, (our 25th anniversary year), Sandra and I returned to Bernkastel by bicycle down the Mosel to have a celebratory revisit.
Goodness knows when we will be back again, although Sandra is game to return next year for the 55th anniversary of our first date. Is that carrying the idea of "significant anniversaries" a step too far?
