A New Compost Box

Since our compost box was falling apart, I decided to investigate having a new one built. The photo below shows the compost box at Megan and Michael's. I wanted the front boards to slide up and down as in their box.

Above is a photo of Paul (a different one) building the box he planned. The drafting course he took in high school stood him in good stead in the planning.

This box is firmly braced.

After getting it in position. Since this is a two compartment box, Paul is putting up the post to hold the dividing boards.

Finished. It took two days to do but it should last forever!

The old compost box I built in 1971 lasted 40 years.

The question is not whether the new box will last more than an additional 40 years, it is whether either Sandra or I will live to see a return on our "Cadillac investment"!
You never noticed that I made one that lasted for the last 18-20 years. I made it out of skids. Shows that you don't look back there much!

I do remember the old redish one being replaced at some point.

We have a huge green garbage box. The city picks up our compost once a week. Don't they pick it up there too? It does look huge.
Of course they do BUT I use the compost box for kitchen waste (no bones, orange peels, or meat) and yard trimmings. Other kitchen waste goes into the green box weekly. Yard waste such as weeds and seeds plus big trimmings and old raspberry canes go out biweekly.

Since I can't recycle my crops, I recycle the soil. My tomatoes like it.
