A Busy Week

On Friday Paul and I, Carole and Roy went to Gary’s new place on Sturgeon Lake near Fenelon Falls. Gary is a member of the Toronto Bicycle Network (TBN). When the large winterized cottage came for sale beside his cottage, he decided to buy it and sell his house in Toronto. He has kept his original cottage as well. His children and grandchildren like to visit. Carole and Roy took their bikes and firewood for Gary. Paul and I brought our bikes and Charles (also a member of the club, and a minister)

Charles was minister at this church one summer. There are 4 churches, each a different denomination, in one block in Fenelon Falls

Next we visited the local farmer’s market to check on the butter tarts.

We then rode10 km on the trail to a chip wagon for lunch., plus 10 km return. Charles is not going very fast these days. It was a very slow ride.
BUT

…the next time Charles comes, Gary will take him on his ATV. (Gary has a few of them)
After the bike ride Gary took us for a boat ride on Sturgeon Lake  and we visited the falls where I once went scuba diving. Then we had supper, delicious spareribs and salad which Patty made.

After the drive home I set my alarm to get up early to do a charity ride the next day It was a 100 km ride starting in the west end of Toronto. I would join the group at the 30 km stop, not far from where we live. Paul drove me to Dundalk and Antrim where the meeting place was. I was early but had the bright idea of riding backward on the route to meet the group. I told Christine, one of the organizers who had arrived (and who lives next door and told me about the ride) what I was going to do. There is a secret gate you go through to get to the streets where the group  would be travelling. Well, I got a little mixed up and decided to return. I could not find the gate to return but I did find the corner on Birchmount they would be going by again. My phone rang. Christine wondered what happened, told me to wait where I was and they would eventually come by. 20 minutes later, after their break. They did. Apparently in my wandering a couple of the guys saw me and wondered why I was going the wrong way.
It was a VERY fast 10 km ride with these young guys to the next stop.

I’m in the group at the back with my head bent. This is the first time a woman has been on their ride.
A photo with our next door neighbours who helped organize the ride. Richard and Aaron rode the rest of the100 hot km. in 7 hours. Christine delivered drinks and snacks. I did a leisurely ride home.
It was an enthusiastic, fun, short 25 km ride for me. For them it was an accomplishment.
