From Amsterdam to Bruges and Back

This year we did our fifth and sixth week long bicycle and barge trips with Cycletours in the Netherlands. Paul volunteered to be the "sweep" for the first three days. The sweep rides at the end of the group helping riders in trouble. The red flag is so that the group leader can see that all 24 cyclists are following him.

South of Amsterdam we cycled along the Vecht River where the newly rich investors in the East India Company built theîr country mansions.

Periodically, there were lift bridges across the Vecht. This bridge is close to Breukelen (after which Brooklyn in New York is named).By putting a 5 Euro coin in a wooden shoe which is hung from a fishing rod, boaters can have the bridge opened.

Impressive. I guess Michael and I will have to start a blog one of these days. Dad looks like he's lost weight.

Looks like a good vacation. Charming scenery. It's nice to see that not all "old" people are feeble!

I'm the first to put a comment on your Blog. We expect pictures every week! Keep up the good work. You'll see, you'll get the hang of it.

Lovely pictures! And how quaint the idea of putting money in a wooden shoe to open the bridge!
