Windmills

Today wind turbines are used for about 10% of the power in the Netherlands. These older, picturesque mills were used for grinding wheat or pumping water. The one on the right can be turned to face the wind. If a mill is in operation 10 days a year, it gets a subsidy.

I love the windmills! I didn't realize that they were so large and that they are still used to produce power.
The largest wind turbines that generate electricity are nearly 100 metres high with 30 metre blades and they are completely silent. They can be found in wind farms of 20 or more turbines along the sea coast.

The old windmills are mostly for decorative and historic purposes.

Good job on the blog! Although mine isn't getting updated these days because the computer always seems to be occupied. Don't forget to look after the kids.
