A Busy Saturday
Saturday February 21 was Alicia's birthday. First we went across the river to the German part of Switzerland for Brandon's weekly riding lesson. There is a stable near their house in Wavre but they don't give riding lessons there.

Bryn, Alicia (and piglet) visited the horses.
A friend of Bryn's keeps her horse at this stable.
At lunch time we celebrated Alicia's birthday. She was two years old
Brandon learning to play Happy Birthday on the "piano".
Bryn registering.
Snowshoes. They have cleats on the bottom. I saw them for sale today for $200. The snowshoes were supplied and the fondue was included for $30.00.
The Swiss snowshoe with their ski poles. Bryn let me use hers (She is holding them so that I can take some photos.) Paul used Hervé's poles. People who were more experienced also brought headlights to wear. These were quite useful in the dark because the path was only marked with luminous sticks. Paul and I used our poles to feel the path. Bryn and Brandon were able to keep up with a group who had lights.
Although very slow, Paul finished the 5 km course up and down the hills. Unfortunately blisters on his feet broke and bled. Two days later, he is still not walking outside.

Mulled wine and spiced hot tea was available at 3 1/2 km and at the end.
Hervé looked after Alicia while Paul, Brandon, Bryn and I snowshoed. He celebrated our return with local Neuchatel wine before fondue was served. We joined him and polished off a second bottle.
Alicia was too hungry to wait for the fondue to arrive. Plain bread was just fine.
Ahhh. The fondue at last. Imagine... a lit fondue pot for every family. There were about 300 people in the room. I wonder if so many open flames would be against our fire regulations. The fondue was so good we scraped the last of the cheese from the pot. On the way home, it occurred to us that maybe we had eaten too much.

In every season, I find this country breathtakingly beautiful and the drive up into the Jura to the town of La Brevine was no exception.

A view of the town of La Brevine as we ascended the hill to go into the forest. Since it was after sunset, I should have had a tripod for this.
