Day 4... Grein to Emmersdorf...51 km with an extra 6 km to Melk

A last look at Grein.

Even though it was to be the hottest day at 33 degrees, I covered up. Too much sun!

Boats waiting to go through the locks. We rode on both sides of the river, crossing over the dams. That's easier than climbing a bridge.
We made it to our hotel in Emmersdorf, across the river from Melk, by 1:00 pm, but having a beer with our lunch, made us sleepy.

Unfortunately, a bee attacked Roy today. They are dangerous. Carole's arm still has a swelling. Mine is itchy.
After a rest at our hotel, Carole and I rode up and over the high bridge across the Danube to Melk. Paul and I were going to have our 45th anniversary dinner in Melk.

Roy, who has a very painful knee did not go. We hope he can ride tomorrow.

Did you take Carole for a quiet look through the historic old town to Zur Post where she could have had dinner?

You didn't mention Carole getting stung (but said her arm is swelling). All 3 of you got it?

Thought you were leaving Wed. 13th. Quite the comparison between Day 1 and Day 4. I'd look like Day 4 just THINKING about all that riding. You should have stayed for the Wed. lunch at Supercentre.
All three of us got stung. I thought I had mentioned Carole's sting but it was just in an email to Paul. It was on the second night. While trying to sleep during the blackout, Carole felt a sharp sting. She dressed and found her way to reception. When they asked what stung her, she had to reply that she didn't know because it was dark. They quickly gave her an ice pack and some cream
