Passau on Foot
The town of Passau near the Austrian and Czech borders is at the confluence of three rivers, the Danube, the Inn and the Ilz.
We decided to tackle the hardest part of our tour first. Accordingly we crossed the Danube on our walk to the Veste Oberhaus fortress. Above is a view of St. Paul's Church, 1678, taken from the Shamsbrücke bridge, looking down on the old town.
This is the Alte Rathaus, the old town hall, built in the 14th to 15th century.
As we began the climb, a series of stairs and switchbacks path, we had another view of St. Paul's and the old town.-photo">

Above us was the Veste Oberhaus Fortress built in 1219 by the town bishops to control commerce across the rivers.
Now it also houses a youth hostel. They must be very fit backpackers to make the climb!
Still walking up along the walls of the fortress.
