Ghent to Kortrijk, Belgium to Lille, France ... 38 km
Wednesday June 6.... D-Day
As we approached Kortrijk (in Belgium) we entered via a big sweeping bicycle bridge to a D-Day memorial made by 5 and 6 year olds.
Then, we followed the tiny river into the town centre where we parked our bikes. A short walk took us to the Grand Place where we ate our lunch outside before entering a cafe for coffee and dessert. After a quick tour of the main square, we set back to retrieve our bikes. We missed the location and walked a half km beyond it before realizing we were both lost and late. Eventually, we arrived 15 minutes late to leave the city with the group.
Our plan had been to stay in Belgium that night at Comines, but we continued on to Lille in France. The adventurous took the subway into the city centre. The tired went to bed just after 8 pm! Three guesses who went to bed early and who went out into Lille!
Lille has an extremely modern, extremely fast, subway. The architecture is beautifully decorative. An interesting city to walk through.
